Snowboard slalom and jibbing!

When you talk about Ski and various levels of expertise, things are simple: If the skier can do clearly a track marked black, he is good. But when talking about snowboard, things are quite complicated. I live in Greece, which is a country well known of the sunny beaches and the wild nightlife. Not for it’s ski resorts. When someone in Greece, ask you if you know how to snowboard he means, if you can do a track considered black without problems. Well yes, I can, many other riders can, but that’s not considered Freeride/Freestyle snowboard.

First thing, I get utterly bored when going up and down the same track. Of course you must be able to speed up and down on demand, make the curves large or close, varying from track to track. But when someone claims to be a good snowboard he must be able to do most of these things (Ollie, Nollie, Fakie, Front 180, Mute, etc). I prefer loosing time trying to learn these, in order to improve my skills while I see many others going up and down, carrying an All-Mountain snowboard! It’s at least stupid, doing the same thing for an entire day. Okay, you’re good in the slalom, you know how to stop, just move on and do something new! Take a look at the video below, these ground tricks are called “jibbish tricks” in the snowboard slang. Take a look:

That’s what I call a good snowboarder. Going up and down all by yourself is easy and boring.

Duh!?!
