Michael Jackson

The King of Pop

I was around six years old when I started listening the first foreign songs. My sisters legacy I guess. Having a four years older sister has it’s positive side. Well for me, actually, it turn out to be all positive.

Her favourite singer was thing, skinny white American guy, named “Michael Jackson“. By that time he was already a huge star but how would I know? Well I did though. In the early 1990 we were still listening to Bad and Thriller hits.

Of course for me growing up with his lyrics, voice and music it was like an idol of sorts. I liked very much his appearance and style in “Bad” video. Of course, I was trying to dance like him, got some moves, never got most of them.

I never stopped listening to his music. Yesterday, to mention an example, I went for my daily quick run on the hill next to my place. On the iPod after Ms Nina’s Sinnerman, the iPod switched to “Don’t stop till get enough“. Michael Jackson was not just a performer. Some of his songs where amazing in my ears. Of course, I’m not a fair judge here, the man was my childhood’s soundtrack, how can I be just? Does it really matter? I really liked songs like “Dirty Diana”, “Smooth Criminal”, “Billy Jean”, “Liberian Girl”, “Give in to me”, “Jam”, “Speed Demon”, “Bad”, etc.

I still remember people on suburbs, friends on mine, dancing like him. Whoever had  a better copy of his moves was the most popular among girls. It’s a bit idiotic with today’s standards, I guess it’s natural, but at the time it was a serious skill, dancing like MJ.

When I start dating girls of course, he already was out of fashion. My strong memories of him and his songs are mostly through my sister. But at that tender age, whatever you listen it sits there for life. I still enjoy his music, like his lyrics and consider him the best pop artist ever along with Madonna.

I admire the artist but I don’t have a clue about the kind of person that he was. A pervert or just different. To tell the truth I was mostly about the second version, but I can’t really tell. He was queer, especially after the release of “Dangerous“, which I loved, he was really queer. For what it matters, he was a living proof that money and success does not mean happiness in any way.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson. You will always be remembered and this is something.
