Convalesco

This year, me and my girlfriend decided to stay together. I wanted since I was 25 to live away from my parents house and my girlfriend was living alone as a student in my town so it was kinda expected situation for both of us. These few days, I’ve spend in order to look over the house, I found myself in a lot of weird trouble.

First, it was hard to find a house that was new. Everyone is trying to sell and not rent the building if possible. Then, rentals can vary very much, to the point that you don’t know if you are paying too much or too many. Then I had to match different needs. I have an expensive car so I need a place to park it. My girlfriend has no car or motorcycle so she needs a place that it’s near the city centre in order be able to do everything by feet. Another problem for me is space. I don’t want a small house because I hate small spaces. The choices are 2 or 3 rooms? We sure need a bedroom and I want an office to work properly. Another room wont harm, we could turn that into a second office for my girlfriend or a small bedroom for guests(!). Actually we don’t need that, my parents house is big enough to guest 4+ people. The big house will be more expensive to warm up and maintain. So the expenses will grow and my official income is not that good yet, but the two incomes together should be more than enough for a 3 bedrooms house. I said official income because I have the possible to add some extra plus, but I don’t want to count uncertain incomes when doing calculations, it’s unhealthy

I am mostly excited because I will finally have my small “computer centre” inside the house. All I need is a good, big office that will be able to host my iMac, my laptop and my Linux server, a computer that acts as file server and in the future it could have further dues, firewall, internet server (httpd, ssh, etc) and much more.

I’ve already calculated how is going to cost a Forthnet 24Mbps connection along with land line phone calls all over Greece. The rest doesn’t come cheap in Greece: Electricity & Water. But everything is gonna fit in the end, I’m quite positive and can’t wait…

Σύμφωνα με τα post στο Mac Planet το iPhone κυκλοφόρησε μεν στην Ελλάδα, αλλά τα πακέτα είναι πανάκριβα κι ασύμφορα. Πιστεύω ότι είναι κακή κίνηση τόσο από την Apple όσο κι από την Vodafone από την στιγμή που δεν υπάρχουν Ελληνικά μενού. Δεν έχω κάτι άλλο να πω πάνω σε αυτό το θέμα, απλά δεν θα το αγοράσω… Είμαι χαρούμενος με το iPod Touch και το Sony Ericsson Z770i για την ώρα…

A crisis with Russia is bad for Europe and that’s not arguable. As for the NATO-Russia relationships, I doubt that it matters more than other organisations like UN. Why should France, Germany and Italy want to take any offensive actions against Russia?

For the US, the stakes are high. It lost the battle of the Caucasus and I’m not quite sure it won the propaganda war. In the US the propaganda against Russia is crystal clear if you read journals while it’s quite unclear if you hear correspondence from S. Ossettia.

The public opinion in Greece and Italy is against the US for the Georgia matter. The governments, wisely enough, don’t want to brick relationships with US, but most European countries wont provoke Russia either. They are just doing everything possible to keep the tension down.

Two days ago I had the bad luck to read the article A scripted war written by the Economist journal, the printed edition of 10-11th August. It’s the first time that I’ve read an article on the journal that I consider strongly and outrageously biased. The international press clearly stated that it was Georgia that fired up the tension in the area, by taking over N. Ossettia. There is no doubt about that. The mentioned article bypasses that, without clarifying who’s fault provoke the escalation in an already dangerous area.

It’s clear that the USA pushed Georgia into this lunacy. Russia’s military action was unexpected for most of the foreign policy analysts although, Putin had predicted an issue about S. Ossettia when Kosovo received a graceful independence considering how rules apply to similar situations. Putin at the time had stated that, he is against the independence of Kosovo but that he will not interfere, nor politically nor military, but he will not accept in any way a similar resolution for North or South Ossettia.

I don’t believe that the Economist is a pseudo-libertarian journal, but I was stroked by the luck of judgement and the biased opinion about USA and Georgia in the escalation. Maybe Russia put fear into every single country it borders, but it was clearly on the defensive here.

Another thing that I fail to understand is how many analysts find positive the installation of missiles in Poland and Czech Republic while they don’t want to know about anti-missile installation system in Cuba. Or you don’t want to know about either, or you just accept that Russia is not Iraq. It’s not going to be an American Puppy. Other statements I’ve read in the comments of the above article, are really naive and show the low level of most readers. I thought that there was a moderator, moderating idiotic comments. Probably there is not: Saying that a country like Russia controls “only the energy sector” is naive to say the least. If a country controls energy and information, controls the world. It can buy army and weapons. I’m not a war policy expert and I don’t know how ready is the Russian army to face a war or a USA army. I can’t say if they are going to win a second cold war, but Putin is for sure, much more capable than G. W. Bush, at least he has an opinion of his own and Russia has very very strong allies, who would like to see the USA going down all over the world. China will stand next to Russia and it’s enough to create a fearful opponent already. The EU is not united in these matters, the European countries are divided because they have different interests. I don’t believe that any sane human being would like to see escalation’s rising between Russia and the USA. But the country that should keep it down is not Russia for sure. It’s the USA that should change their foreign bullying policy. Installing an anti-Russian missile system in Poland wont help. If I’d be Poland I would be much more worried if my Government installs these missiles than if it doesn’t. If you don’t act aggressively against the “Bear” I don’t believe that it will attack you. While if something goes wrong and Poland would have to face Russia, I believe that it will be brought down to zero in no time and the USA would be too far and away in order to help them. As the did in Georgia, Mr. Mikheil Saakashvili was backed up by the USA after his troops were spoiled and Tbilisi face extermination. The villages near the borders suffered from Russian rides, where were the UN and the USA? This is not Iraq or a Taliban clan countries are dealing with.

I don’t want to see any of the above scenario taking place. I’d like to see prosperity peace and regulation taking place everywhere. But as Chomsky put’s in his book Failed States that I happened to read lately, if the USA foreign policy would not stop escalating tensions all over the world, a nuclear war in the next future, is not an unreal scenario.

Παίρνοντας βήμα από το άρθρο του Cosmix για τον πόλεμο στην Ν. Οσετία, θα ήθελα να εκφράσω κάποιες ανησυχίες, θεωρίες και προβληματισμούς γύρο από αυτό το θέμα. Είναι πασιφανές πιστεύω πως η Γεωργία δεν περίμενε αυτήν την αντίδραση από τους Ρώσσους. Τα τηλεφωνήματα τους G. W. Bush καθώς και οι επίσκεψη της Ράις δηλώνουν ξεκάθαρα την στάση των ΗΠΑ στο θέμα. Οι ΗΠΑ υπό φυσιολογικές συνθήκες και με εκλογές στο άμεσο μέλλον θα έπρεπε να ακολουθούν ελαφρώς διαφορετική γραμμή. Βέβαια, τα διάφορα γκάλοπ λένε ότι σε περίοδο μεγάλης ανασφάλειας (πολέμους, τρομοκρατία) οι περισσότεροι Αμερικανοί προτιμούν μια κυβέρνηση Ρεπουμπλικάνων κι όχι Δημοκρατικών. Δεν ξέρω αν μια τέτοια θεωρία μπορεί να ευσταθεί, αλλά δημιουργώντας μια κρίση στις σχέσεις Ρωσίας – ΗΠΑ θα μπορούσαν να βοηθήσουν έμμεσα τον McCain ο οποίος πλέον δεν έχει να χάσει και πολλά, αφού θεωρείται χαμένος από χέρι. Μια τέτοια θεωρία θα ενισχυθεί αν σε λίγες εβδομάδες η Ουκρανία προκαλέσει την Ρωσία με τον ίδιο τρόπο¹ με τον οποίο την προκάλεσε η Γεωργία, υπό τις ευλογίες κι όχι μόνο των ΗΠΑ. Εάν οι Αμερικανοί πολίτες νιώσουν ότι βρίσκονται στα πρόθυρα ενός πολέμου με την αναγεννημένη Ρωσία του Πούτιν, ίσως προτιμήσουν έναν… Ρεπουμπλικάνο!

Η κατάσταση στις σχέσεις Ρωσίας – ΗΠΑ δυστυχώς μόνο να χειροτερέψει μπορεί να τα σχέδια των ΗΠΑ να εγκαταστήσουν αντιπυραβλική ασπίδα στην Πολωνία κι αυτά ενώ ετοιμάζουν την δική της αντιπυραβλική η Ρωσία για για την Κούβα. Το μόνο θετικό είναι στη όλη υπόθεση είναι ότι οι Αμερικανοί δεν θα έχουν Bush και συνεργάτες, οπότε υπάρχει μια ελπίδα να σταματήσει να έχει τόσο επιθετική πολιτική, διότι με την νέα δυνατή Ρωσία στο προσκήνιο, τα πράγματα αλλάζουν και για τις ΗΠΑ. Η Ρωσία δεν μοιάζει μόνη, η Κίνα και η Ινδία φαίνεται να την υποστηρίζουν δημιουργώντας έναν άξονα. Η Κίνα είναι σίγουρο ότι θα στήριζε την Ρωσία σε έναν αγώνα δρόμου εναντίων των ΗΠΑ. Η Ινδία είναι λιγότερο ξεκάθαρο, διότι οι ΗΠΑ ελέγχουν ένα μεγάλο μέρος της οικονομίας της, οπότε δεν γνωρίζω κατά πόσο μπορούν να επηρεάσουν την κυβέρνηση της χώρας.

Η Ευρώπη όπως είναι λογικό, σαν συνασπισμός είναι διχασμένη: Οι Γερμανοί, δεν ξέρουν τι από τα δύο είναι χειρότερο, οι ΗΠΑ ή μια χώρα που τους δημιούργησε τα περισσότερα δυνατά προβλήματα μεταπολεμικά; Η Γαλλία είναι ξεκάθαρα εναντίων των ΗΠΑ, αλλά δεν θα ήθελε καμία απολύτως σύρραξη κοντά στα Ευρωπαϊκά σύνορα. Η Αγγλία δεν χρειάστηκε ποτέ να εκφράσει την άποψη της: Είναι το “κατοικίδιο” των ΗΠΑ, δεν έχει άποψη, απλά ακολουθεί τους Αγγλοσάξονες. Η Ιταλία πιστεύω πως θα πάρει το μέρος της Ρωσίας, διότι οι σχέσεις Πούτιν – Μπερλουσκόνι είναι στενότερες από αυτές με τον Αμερικανό ομόλογο του, ο οποίος τον έχει προσβάλει με τις κινήσεις του κατ’ επανάληψη.

Το Ελλαδιστάν, πιστεύω ότι μετά την αγορά ενέργειας από την Ρωσία² και την αγορά εξοπλισμού από την Γαλλία³ η θέση της εξωτερικής πολιτικής είναι πιθανόν να στραφεί προς την Ρωσική πλευρά.

Πιστεύω πως ανήκουν εύσημα στον Σαρκοζί για τον τρόπο που αντιμετώπισε την κρίση στον Καύκασο, τον τρόπο που δρομολόγησε την αποστρατικοποίηση της Ν. Οσετίας κτλ. Αυτήν την στιγμή μαζί με τον Πούτιν πιστεύω πως είναι οι σημαντικότερες προσωπικότητες στην Ευρώπη.
