Losing ADSL+2 Speed
Posted in Internet & technology on July 29th, 2008 by atma – 4 CommentsMy provider is main stated owned Greek ISP called otenet. The choice was because none of the competitors had it’s own network. Every single provider was based in the network provided by otenet. These last two months I had many disconnects while working online. I thought it was the ADSL+2 router, the main reason. I bought another one. A USRobotics 4-switch with WiFi support. I had even more disconnects!
After reading a bit on adslgr forum, I understood that the problem was the line and the distance from the DSLAM. The line had very low SN Margin [db] numbers, hence the disconnects. I contacted the support centre which immediately took action and lowered by broadband bandwidth in order make me get higher SN rates. Now my rates are okay but my connection is slow
. I can feel it!
The ADSL+2 speed-test shows that the connection maximum speed is 1190 kbps for downstream, while I pay for 2048. Isn’t that kinda sad? Well in Greece it’s always like that. When Forthnet, the second bigger Greek provider builds his network in my town I’ll go Forthnet. Can’t stand this shit…
