Breaking the iPod Touch 16G

without comments

After loosing some hours the last couple of days I managed to jailbreak my iPod Touch! What made me lost time was a probably broken, corrupted or wrong image file. First, I followed the crunchgear guide which apparently was linking a an iPhone image that couldn’t boot the iPod Touch. I can’t tell the reason for sure. When I download the iPod Touch firmware image from the TouchDev guide everything went fine!
The two images are not the same:

libertad:~ atma$ diff iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw
Binary files iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw and iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw differ

Now I’m ready to install the applications that I like without harassment! Still don’t understand why this jewel is locked, but unlocked is even more amazing.

UPDATE: After installing the Apollo IM client, the AppInstaller broke. I’m stuck at an “press okay” which I press again and again without resolving much. It seems that instability is in the order of the day when using the jailbreak. Never mind though, it’s worth the risk :-)
